AUGUSTA – One of the University of Maine’s most-hyped recruits certainly lived up to her reputation this season, and her efforts also earned her the top honor in the state of Maine.
Hermon senior Hailey Perry was named Miss Maine Softball 2017 at the Maine Senior All-Star Games Thursday afternoon, beating out a talented group of players in the process. Perry becomes the second Hawk in as many years to take home the award, with Karli Theberge winning Miss Maine Softball 2016.
“I’ve heard great things about all the players that were nominated, so it was really exciting for me to know that I was nominated,” Perry said Thursday. “But to actually win the award was really exciting because I’ve been wishing for this since i was a freshman in high school.”
The award honors the best senior softball player in the state, and she did in fact beat out a stacked group of players. Future UMaine teammate Lilly Volk, Bucksport’s Madysen Robichaud, Cheverus’ Ally Tillotson, Wells’ Sara Ring and Windham’s Olivia Mora rounded out the finalists for this year’s award.
Perry hit .576 in her senior season, with the Hawks exited in the Class B North regional semifinals to eventual state champion Old Town.
