FORT KENT – The University of Maine at Fort Kent men’s basketball team is set to get a shot in the arm from two of the North’s best players next season.
Machias’ James Mersereau and Cairbou’s Andre Rossignol will head to UMFK next year, as part of the school’s 2017-2018 recruiting class. The Bangor Daily News was first to report of the class, which also includes several other junior college additions to round out the incoming group.
Mersereau was a crucial part to Machias’ Class D state title run this past year, averaging 14 points per game through regional play, including a 20-point performance in the regional finals against Southern Aroostook. Rossignol, son of former Black Bear Matt Rossignol, played at Van Buren before transferring to Caribou, scoring 1,000 points across his time at both schools.
The Bengals finished 23-9 last season, their winningest season in more than 30 years.
