BRUNSWICK – History was made at Brunswick Golf Club Thursday afternoon, and it was just 98 years in the making.
Jack Wyman’s 5-under for the tournament clinched him the Maine Amateur Championship, becoming the first lefty in the history of the tournament to win. Camden’s Sam Grindle put up a late run with poor weather playing a factor in the final day of action, entering the day trailing by eight strokes but finishing at -3 for the tournament. The 26-year-old Wyman struggled on the back nine, but managed to hold off Grindle’s charge and make history in the process.
“It feels great. Yeah. Go lefties man,” Wyman said. “There’s a lot of good ones out here so it was going to happen. It’s a great feeling. I’ve played in a lot of AMs now. So to finally get one is a really awesome feeling.”
