HERMON – When one thinks of snowmobiling, winter certainly comes to mind. Not here in Maine. The second Pat Parker Memorial Grass Drags snowmobile race is set for Aug. 19 and 20 at the Penobscot Snowmobile club in Hermon.
The event exceeded expectations last year as it drew in large crowds from all around the state. Event organizers expect a larger turnout this year thanks in part to irrigation renovations, improved race surfaces, and increased space for parking. The success at the event is also expected to help bolster the local economy.
“Well it’s bringing a vitality back to the town. We got people that are shopping at the local supermarket, we got people that are buying hotel rooms at Hollywood Slots and spending some money at the casino. We got people patronizing the subway and the hardware stores,” Penobscot Snowmobile Club trail master and race organizer Byron Ogden said.
The race is set to start at 10 a.m. on both days.
