ORONO – Hurricane Harvey has had devastating effects on the Houston area. One college basketball coach is calling out for help.
University of Houston men’s basketball coach Kelvin Sampson challenged every college hoops coach to donate articles of clothing and shoes to the victims of Hurricane Harvey yesterday.
Maine men’s basketball has answered as the program sent down Black Bear t-shirts to Houston Athletics office where the shirts will then be distributed.
Maine head coach Bob Walsh said the initiative is a great way for everyone to help the cause and is representative of Maine’s community service initiatives.
“We put together a basket of some t-shirts. We’ve got some Maine gear to send out to the guys and hopefully we do just a small part. Maybe there will be one family that’s been affected that gets a Maine t-shirt that makes their lives just a little bit better in the midst of a tragedy.
