HERMON – The Paul Bunyan 250 will make its way to Hermon this weekend, as Speedway 95 wraps up its 51st year in action. And what’s lined up should be a big treat for racing fans of all ages.
“I’d just like them to go away and have them say they had the greatest time this summer at Speedway 95,” track owner Del Merritt said Tuesday.
Saturday and Sunday will see a variety of racing in the season finale, with the 7th-annual Ikey Dorr Memorial Street Stock race and the Darlings.com Late Model 150 main-eventing a busy two days. Other races will be held throughout the weekend, with proceeds going towards benefiting Maine’s Vertans’ Homes. Speedway 95 traditionally pays it forward towards those who served, and Merritt wanted to ensure the final weekend of the season would be in their honor.
“[Veterans] seem to be always on the second burner for everybody,” he said. “And everybody seems to be raising money for everybody but the ones that has [sic] made it possible for us to be here. So I think it’s a great event,” he said.
Pits open 10 a.m. Saturday.
