STATEWIDE – The Coffee News Comrades managed their pitch counts extensively en route to the Maine Legion baseball title this past summer. But under new rules, its possible they wouldn’t have been able to get the total production they had originally desired to.
American Legion baseball head Gary Stone announced this month it is lowing its maximum pitch count limit to 105 pitches, down from 120. This will require four days of rest between appearances. The minimum requirement for four days rest is now 81, bumped from 76, while 61-80 pitches will require three days of rest.
Additionally, state tournament games will be shortened to seven innings, down from nine. Multiple local Legion coaches were contacted for this story, but did not respond to request for comment.
