ORONO – We are 24 hours away from the opening tip-off in the college basketball world.
The state of Maine revolves around the sport and it loves its University of Maine Black Bears.
But it’s not a stretch to say a culture change was needed in the locker room for the men’s team.
Last year the Black Bears limped to the finish line.
Dealing with injuries and suspensions to key players, including leading scorer Wes Myers.
But Maine brings in a plethora of new talent and multiple players tell ABC 7 and FOX 22 the morale and comradarie in the locker room is the best it’s been in a while.
Head coach Bob Walsh said the team is buying into the preached winning mentality.
“The guys are taking what we’re trying to teach, they’re working on it. They’re improving each day. There’s a response to everything we do that’s been really mature, whether things have been good or bad. And I like to see that,” Walsh said.
