RICHMOND, Va. – Let the week of awards continue. After Josh Mack and Jaron Grayer were announced as FCS award finalists on Monday the CAA has announced that eight Black Bears have earned CAA honors.
Mack, Earnest Edwards, Jamil Demby and Mozai Nelson all made the CAA first team.
Sterling Sheffield and Manny Patterson made the second team while Kayon Whitaker and Isaiah Brooks made the third team.
The Black Bears return six of the eight players next season including Mack who led the nation in rush yards and Whitaker who led the ‘Black Hole’ with eight and half sacks.
While the accolades are nice head coach Joe Harasymiak is hoping the young core can be even better next season.
“We have a lot of young talent that has played really well early on in their careers and now its about taking the next step. You know there was an incentive to work hard with these guys last year they didn’t really play,” Harasymiak said.
“Now that you’re one of the guys and played well in the CAA and you’ve won some games are you going to complacent and comfortable with where you’re at or are you going to work even harder to be better.”
