BUCKSPORT – The Bucksport wrestling pipeline runs deep.
“My brother wrestled, my dad wrestled and all my uncles and stuff like that. It’s just something the entire community can have and rally around,” Golden Bucks wrestler Foster Ashmore.
Head coach Dan Ormsby is part of that rich wrestling tradition. The Bucksport alum helped lead the Golden Bucks to a state championship in 2000 and is now molding the future of the program.
“I can look at them and I can say that banner on the wall is my team, that’s the team that made that banner and I ask them what banner are they going to put on the wall,” Ormsby said.
The Golden Bucks have won three state championships in program history, while they have high aspirations this season – they realize the sport means a lot more than shiny trophies.
“The memories that you make in the wrestling room are really how you identify yourself a lot of times in high school,” Ormsby said.
“I played football I played golf I did track but I’m a wrestler. You know that’s what I did that’s who I am and I think a lot of these guys will do the same thing,” Ormsby said.
