ORONO – With former offensive coordinator Liam Coen departing for Holy Cross, Maine football quickly found itself with a whole in a top coaching position. The team moved to fill that position Wednesday.
The program announced offensive line coach Brian Picucci would be promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach ahead of next season. Sliding into his former role will be former tight ends coach Pat Denecke. Both men came to the university in 2016, becoming important parts to Joe Harasymiak’s rookie coaching staff.
“Brian (Picucci) will provide us with great experience and knowledge as our new offensive coordinator,” Harasymiak said in a release. “His track record and experience will make this a smooth transition. He has had top offenses in this league while at UMass in the past and we look forward to what he brings to our program in a new role.”
Picucci has 21 total years of college coaching experience, and helped lead Maine’s offensive line this season to becoming one of the most efficient units in all of the conference.
