ORONO – A sweep of Quinnipiac, some stellar goal play and a plethora of goals had the Maine Black Bears men’s hockey team feeling pretty great heading into the holiday break.
At 8-7-1, the Black Bears are in a solid position to make a run in the second half of the season. Though they will be without star goaltender Jeremy Swayman for the next couple of weeks due to his participation with the U.S. Junior National Team, junior Rob McGovern steps back in goal for a team hungry to get back to their winning ways against RPI this weekend. But in order to do so, they will have to shake off some rust from the holidays and recognize where they can improve.
“In some ways, you know, you’re kind of trying to forget about hockey for a few days,” sophomore forward Mitchell Fossier said. “But no, absolutely, especially the last few days and coming close to this weekend, you do start to reflect. Look at what we were good at the first half of the season and what we weren’t so good at.”
Puck drop is set for Friday at 4 p.m.
