ORONO – It’s been quite the ride for Maine women’s basketball this season.
A stunning preseason loss to Division II Stonehill left fans wondering if this team had what it took to win America East.
On the eve of conference play the team has answered that question, it’s a resounding yes.
The Black Bears battled through one of the toughest non conference schedules in the nation which included contests against No. 5 Mississippi State, No. 10 Ohio State and No. 17 Duke.
The blue and white went 7-6 in non conference play and now have extra confidence heading into its first America East game Wednesday night against Stony Brook.
Head coach Amy Vachon is excited to see her team open up conference play and is entering the ‘new season’ with a modest approach.
“As long as we learn from the non conference because they’re a lot of things we need to get better at and they know that. We have to keep getting better everyday and if we do that we’ll be in good shape,” Vachon said.
