ORONO – It is no secret freshman goaltender Jeremy Swayman has been instrumental to Maine men’s hockey’s success this year, and he was honored once more for his efforts Monday.
Hockey East named Swayman the Co-Defensive Player of the Week, sharing the honors with New Hampshire goalie Danny Tirone. The Black Bears and Wildcats tied two games this past weekend at UMaine, and he sported a .939 save percentage across three games on the week in total.
Swayman had the opportunity to learn from some of the best while playing on the U.S. Junior National Team, having returned at the beginning of January. He said last week it was an experience he’ll never forget.
“Every practice was a battle, and a total learning experience,” he said. “Playing with the best of the best was a really big honor. I took full advantage of it whenever I could.”
