ORONO – After just one season in blue and white, Vernon Lowndes Jr. is leaving the Maine men’s basketball program.
Lowndes Jr. confirmed to ABC 7 and Fox 22 he will be transferring following his junior year at the University of Maine. The news was first reported by Verbal Commits on Twitter.
The junior’s departure from Maine comes on the heels of turnover within the program, with former women’s basketball head coach Richard Barron taking over. Lowndes Jr. showed signs of brilliance in his lone season in Orono, but struggled to find much playing time. He played in 29 games, starting just six, and averaged 6.5 points per game in the process.
