ORONO – Even with ace Justin Courtney sidelined for the rest of the season, the University of Maine baseball team has reason to be optimistic.
Maine rolled past Albany with three-straight wins last weekend, opening up the home slate in thunderous fashion. The Black Bears outscored the Great Danes 31-4, something that would have seemed nearly unfathomable not all that long ago for Maine.
“The biggest thing was our ability to continue to pile runs on,” head coach Nick Derba said Wednesday. “That’s something that we haven’t done in my five years here. I haven’t seen us do that. That’s a testament to the guys and their desire to just win and win as much as possible. And that’s something that’s part of culture building and it’s just good to see.”
The Black Bears will host Stony Brook for three games this coming weekend.
