ORONO – There are many things associated with April 20, but running may not be what you initially think of. The University of Maine is looking to change that.
The school held its 11th-annual “Healthy High” 10K and 5K Friday, as sleet and rain poured from the sky. Nearly 900 runners from both the UMaine, Orono and outside communities took place in the event, with an additional set of participants walking to raise awareness for domestic violence.
The event, put on by the school’s student wellness resource center, is a chance to keep those who participate on the right path on a day typically associated with other sorts of extra-curricular activities.
“It’s all about deterring students away from bad life choices and other things that might be associated with 4/20,” one of the organizers of the event, Stephen Hogue, said. “And to bring the community and the students together in a fun, healthy activity.”
