ORONO – It’s an annual tradition for the University of Maine football team, and it will be the last shot for players to prove their worth for the school year.
Friday will see UMaine host its Jeff Cole Memorial Spring Game at Alfond Stadium. The game was originally set for a 7 p.m. start, but has been pushed ahead to 4:30 p.m. due to expected inclement weather. Multiple units will get opportunities to put their spring ball reps to a test, with an expected high-scoring affair sending Maine into the summer with what it hopes will be more answers than questions.
The Black Bears lost a talented senior class to graduation this year, and bring in several new coaches. That’s why head coach Joe Harasymiak, entering his third spring game, has constructive expectations ahead of the matchup.
“I think for tomorrow, you want to have a good feeling knowing that it’s the last time you’re going to have a constructed practice until August,” he said Thursday. “So to be able to go out on a high note, and it’s hard, because we go against each other. So there’s going to be ups and downs, and I’m the guy that has to stay even keel.”
