ORONO – Ed Kohtala’s three-year hiatus from coaching high school basketball has come to a close, as he is officially off the market.
Orono High School officially named Kohtala its head boys basketball coach Monday, after he was confirmed by the town’s board of education. ABC 7 and Fox 22 first reported in April Kohtala had been offered the job.
Kohtala led Bangor High School to a 32-24 across three seasons, with his final season coming in 2014-2015. There, the Rams failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 1986. He would then resign from the position following the conclusion of that season.
He replaces Jason Coleman, who is now the director of basketball operations with the University of Maine men’s basketball program.
