TAMPA, Fla. – Hannah Steelman’s dominance for Orono High School in track and field has translated well to the Division I level, so much so, she is now taking her competitive spirit to the highest level.
Steelman qualified for the NCAA Championships this past weekend in the 5,000 meters and the 3,000-meter steeplechase, meaning she will compete nationally in Eugene, Oregon in the beginning of June. Steelman punched her ticket at the NCAA East Regionals, and will become the first runner in Wofford College history to make the trip to nationals.
Steelman, who was new to the steeplechase this year, has stood out as one of the best freshman runners in the country, and she is still in disbelief of her progress.
“Just being able to say that I made it that far,” she remarked Monday, still excited over the news. “Honestly, I’ve surprised myself so many times this season, I’m just excited to see what I can do when i’m up against that level of competition.”
The NCAA Championships will be held June 6 through June 9.
