BREWER/BANGOR – June 16, 2018 will go down as one of the greatest days in Brewer athletics history.
Both the baseball and softball teams won Class B state championships, baseball won its first in program history.
Josiah Cyr walked Brewer off to a 3-2 win over Wells at Mansfield Stadium.
“It was unbelievable, I was trying to put the ball in play. You know maybe sac fly, but I did a little more than that and got the win. Its an honor, being the first baseball state championship team. That’s such an amazing feeling,” Cyr said after the game.
Libby Hewes pitched Brewer to a 1-0 shutout over Greely in the Class B title game. Both the baseball and softball team celebrated together after the softball team’s win at Coffin Field.
“To share this with the guys and to get it ourselves and to be able to celebrate together is more than we could ask for,” senior Emily Lord said.
“We’ve gone for state titles before, we’ve always been runners up and you know this year its just crazy we have no emotions nothing that can actually explain how happy we are,” Hewes said.
