ORONO – Maine football’s “black hole” defense has been its bread and butter for years. It’s back and even nastier this season.
They’ll need to do their best if they want to stop Trevor Knight and company. The Wildcats senior quarterback has been among the best in all of FCS football.
UNH threw the kitchen sink at Maine last season and Knight was at the center of it all as he threw for 158 yards and two touchdowns against the Black Bears last season.
The key for the defense on Thursday? To keep Knight in the pocket and limit his options.
“His two favorite targets Neil O’Connor and Malik Love we just need to be able to be on them the entire game and make sure they don’t have any air space when they’re running their routes,” Maine football linebacker Sterling Sheffield said.
