ORONO – When you look up and down Gary Fifield’s resume one word comes to mind…legend.
The former long time University of Southern Maine women’s basketball head coach is returning to coaching. This winter he’ll be wearing a different shade of blue.
Fifield is stepping out of retirement to be a temporary assistant for Amy Vachon and Maine women’s basketball. The former Huskies coach is filling the void left by former assistant Jhasmin Player who left the team in August to be closer to home in Texas.
For Fifield the opportunity was one he could not pass up.
“I’ve been at the division one level before so I know exactly how much work there is to it. But when I met with Amy her personality her energy so on. How could I say no,” Fifield said.
