AUGUSTA – MDI girls cross country thought it left Belfast as Class B North champions. They did, for 24 hours or so.
On Monday afternoon, its rival Ellsworth has been crowned Class B North champs. The Maine Principals Association has announced that a scoring error awarded the wrong school the championship. The error was fixed Monday morning and found that there was a tie between both teams.
“The tie was broken between the two schools by going to the results of the sixth place finisher for both teams. Following the race, the awards presented were reversed. We are sorry for this error and the impact that it has had on both schools,” The MPA said in a statement released on Monday.
Both MDI and Ellsworth did not respond to initial calls and emails.
