ORONO – College winter sports athletes often times have to travel and play during the holiday season. Maine men’s hockey spent last Thanksgiving in Belfast, Northern Ireland. This year they’ll be right at home.
The Black Bears welcome Quinnipiac to Alfond Arena this weekend. It’s a big series for Maine as the Bobcats are ranked No. 10 in the nation.
Maine is coming off a weekend series split with Boston University down in Boston while Quinnipiac is coming off a weekend sweep of Cornell and Colgate.
Safe to say Maine is happy to back home for the holiday. It is 3-1 at home compared to a 1-4 mark on the road.
“It’s definitely nice being home having the home crowd. The student section will probably be a little light people will be home for vacation. But it’s always nice to stay close to home and I know we have a bunch of families coming up from guys on the team so it’ll be a fun weekend,” defenseman Rob Michel said.
