OGDEN, Utah – Several of families of Maine football players made the long trek out to Ogden, Utah last week to watch their loved ones play on the national stage.
Former Cheverus star Joe Fitzpatrick’s family was one of the families that was able to make it to Utah.
Fitzpatrick’s parents Patti and Joe flew from Portland to New York to Salt Lake City in order to watch their son play in the FCS Playoffs.
They said they had no second thoughts about traveling out west, once it was logistically possible. Because of course, playing on the road in the playoffs isn’t an everyday occurrence.
“This is really such an honor for Joe to be playing at this level and and be a Maine kid playing on a Maine team. Coming to Utah is like a dream come true for him and for us,” Fitzpatrick’s father Joe said before the game.
“This whole team has been fabulous this year and we’re just so happy that we’re here and we can’t wait for the game,” Patti Fitzpatrick said.
The Black Bears went on to beat Weber State 23-18, they will play Eastern Washington in the national semifinals this Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
