BANGOR – In August 2019 Brewer announced a 4 million dollar proposal to transform Heddericg Field and surrounding fields into a multi-sport turf complex.
A big time aspiration now on hold.
“As kind of the world came to a halt with the pandemic the project is going on the back burner too that’s probably the right thing to do right now it’s not that we don’t want to get it done,” Brewer athletic director, David Utterback, said.
If not for COVID-19, Utterback believes parties interested in funding the 4 million dollar project would have committed with construction starting later this year.
“It was going to be all privatized you know it was a zero burden to the tax payers so to speak as far as getting money locally we were going to get everything kind of done through securing partners either financial or in kind,” he said.
The goal was not short term as the project is an investment not for just the next couple years, instead it’s for generations.
“We talked about new Heddericg Field being a field and a vision for the next 20 years or so of Brewer you know now probably the next 22 years the vision will still be there and we’ll get back to it when we get back to it,” Utterback said.
The Brewer AD added if kids are back in school this fall he will revisit the project with the hope that previous interested partners will stay committed.
