BANGOR – Brewer athletic director, David Utterback, is all about his kids.
It’s why he is doing his part to give back to his seniors athletes, even during a pandemic.
“I think people got to see a different side of kids you know I try to at the end of it ask some funny questions and put them on the spot a little bit more and keep them on their toes,” Utterback said.
He’s conducted several interviews with Brewer senior athletes before and during the quarantine.
But, one athlete decided to change things up.
“I texted Utterback immediately and I was like I’m going to interview you and you can’t say no,” Brewer senior baseball player, Trevor Pearson, said.
“So he was kind of like The Godfather in that sense in that he made me an offer I couldn’t refuse,” Utterback added.
The Brewer AD happily accepted Pearson’s offer and with every question and answer it went from an athlete interviewing his AD, to two friend learning about each other.
“I actually did not know he went to Bangor High School and my opinion of him dropped immediately, no I’m just kidding,” Pearson said with a smile.
Pearson was also sure to get in a jab about their favorite college basketball teams.
”So as you know I’m a Duke fan and you’re a University of North Carolina fan, who won both the match ups between the two teams this year?” Pearson asked Utterback in their interview.
“I plead the fifth,” Utterback responded, which garned a laugh from the Brewer senior.
Technology has brought us together during the pandemic, but it’s words of encouragement and inspiration, with a side dish of fun that acts as the glue that keeps us strong.
