SACO – The 2020 Maine Amateur was former Camden Hills golfer Cole Anderson’s tournament to lose on the final 18 holes on Thursday.
Anderson, who now plays for Florida State, started the third round with a three shot lead, -4 through 36 holes. Six golfers were tied at second at -1 after the second round.
Thursday was Anderson’s day, shooting a punishing 65; good for -6 for his third round and -10 for the tournament. This is Anderson’s second straight Maine Amateur Championship.
Anderson’s third round 65 placed him six strokes clear of the runners up, with second place through fifth place separated by one stroke a piece.
2015 Maine Amateur winner John Hayes finished second, at -4 for the tournament.
Caleb Manuel, Mt. Ararat graduate and University of Connecticut commit, continues a strong summer of golf with a fourth place finish, after setting the Brunswick Golf Club course record with a 59 in late May.
A likely frustrating finish for Drew Powell, the Bangor High School graduate and current Duke University golfer, who wrapped up the week in fifth place, at-1, after starting the day in second place.
