AUGUSTA – High temperatures on Monday afternoon made for a fast playing golf course during the first round of the Maine Women’s Amateur Golf Championship.
2018 champion Bailey Plourde finished the day even par, with a three shot lead heading in to round two on Tuesday.
Three golfers are tied at second place at +3, with the defending champ, Jordan Laplume 7 back of Plourde with a +7 in her first round.
Plourde said after her round that temperature was a definite factor for the golfers on Monday.
“On 18 I really wanted to make that birdie but to shoot even I think I have to be happy with it. It got really hot on the back nine which, I think, affected me a little, bit but I probably didn’t stay as hydrated as I should of but yeah overall I’m very happy.”
