BANGOR – Like many international students COVID-19 has impacted Sergio El Darwich’s plans.
“It’s been difficult pretty difficult trying to go home (Lebanon) to visit but the visa would expire I wouldn’t be able to come back here,” El Darwich said.
Sometimes things just happen to work out though as the former Maine men’s basketball guard has been able to hone his skills and workout at Unlock your Potential in Bangor.
“Matt’s (MacKenzie) focus on the individual stuff break down game situations and stuff with the help of Shawn (Demaray) too with the weight so yea it’s been pretty good here,” El Darwich added.
The former Black Bear has been training with MacKenzie and Demaray the last few weeks as he prepares for his future.
“I signed with an agent around two month ago, agent from back home in Lebanon called Jad Saade Basketball Agency and it’s been a good experience so far,” El Darwich said.
“He has a lot of contacts with American agents that could help me here, he’s probably the best in the Middle East,” he added.
El Darwich declared for the NBA draft and is hoping to be able to continue his basketball career professionally either in America or overseas.
But with the uncertainty of today’s world, he’s focusing on the present.
“My plan is to get better every day and try to improve myself and see what god has in store for me,” El Darwich said.
