OLD TOWN – Golf courses, and disc golf courses, were forced to close in late March after being deemed non-essential businesses by Governor Janet Mills during the COVID-19.
Courses across Maine were give the green light on March 28 to reopen May 1, with heightened safety precautions. Course owners were asked to remove all common touch points, such ball washers, trash cans, benches, restrooms, and modify pin flags and holes. Clubhouses are closed to golfers, and most courses offer the ability to pay online, and walk right from their vehicles to the course and play.
We visited Hidden Meadows in Old Town on Saturday, after heavy rain hindered its first day back in operation on Friday, and spoke with golfers and course owner Joe Perdue about their experiences.
