BANGOR – Husson women’s basketball is halfway through its season and it’s apparent, Bailey Donovan is the real deal.
The former Hampden Academy Bronco is averaging a double-double and has taken home five NAC Rookie of the Week honors for Husson this season.
In a year that is supposed to be a transition year, Donovan is turning in one of the best by an Eagle in recent memory.
“I kind of thought it’d be like high school like I’d have to wait to make my role on the team or whatever but so far it’s been pretty good,” Donovan said.
The last four years, the train went as long as Kenzie Worcester was fueling the engine. Donovan has taken over that role for the Eagles this year and has seen her game evolve. Thanks to her fellow forwards.
“Well I think having other big people to go against in practice has been the leading factor in that because it gives me a reason to work harder and it’s just harder competition,” Donovan said.
Forwards Sami Ireland and Megan Peach have pushed Donovan to new heights.
”I have to get low in the post and just kind of work on my footwork and more and get around them and stuff,” Donovan said.
A team that was centered around the perimeter has now transitioned to a new presence in the paint.
