BANGOR – The American Legion baseball state tournament and regular season are officially canceled due to covid-19, but one Machias coach is hoping to still provide an outlet for games to be played this summer.
Machias Junior Legion coach Ian Emery is working to organize what he’s calling the “Quoddy Baseball League” for players between ages 14 and 18 in the absence of an official Legion baseball season. The summer league’s name being an ode to the former competition that took place Downeast in the 1960’s.
Details are still being hammered out on locations and participants. Emery said Saturday he has heard from 10 teams already with some form of interest. If the league is able to get off the ground, he said the league will adhere to all state and local safety guidelines.
We hope to have more details on the structure of the league as they become available.
