BANGOR – The American Legion has announced its baseball world series and regional tournaments have been canceled due to COVID-19.
However, The Maine American Legion has not postponed or canceled its season as of now.
Maine’s junior league commissioner, Rod Stevens, said the a decision does not have to be made until May 15th, but he’d like to make one before then.
Stevens added legion baseball will monitor what happens with the high school baseball season and will proceed from there. He added that the legion schedule can be flexible in that it can be shortened to 12 games and playoffs could be moved back.
According to Stevens there are 18 senior legion teams around the state, 15 of which have already registered.
In addition, there are 26 junior legion teams, seven more than last year. Of those 26 teams 21 have registered.
