ORONO – Tereza Vanisova will go down as one of the greatest, if not the greatest women’s hockey player in University of Maine history. The forward has tallied 129 points and has two Hockey East semifinals appearances, the only two in program history.
Vanisova and the Black Bears skate into Saturday’s Hockey East semifinal tilt against Northeastern looking to add to the record book and advance to the Hockey East final for the first time in program history.
The genesis of Vanisova’s legend is interesting. It all started on the recruiting trail at a tournament in Japan.
“Me, my wife, our assistant coach Sara, and then our assistant coach Kendall at the time she had let us know the game time so I woke up at 3:45 a.m. we kind of were texting a little bit at 4:05 Kendall and Sara were sound asleep again. They were like we saw enough like we saw two shifts we knew she was going to be a special player,” Maine head coach, Richard Reichenbach said.
