AUGUSTA – The Maine Principals Association continues to operate with the intent on playing its sports schedule this fall, and announced Thursday that teams can begin individual training on July 6.
Per the guidelines distributed to schools today, the MPA will require each school to establish a COVID-19 response team before training can begin. Once those sessions begin all participants must wear a protective face mask when not actively exercising. Schools will be asked to screen students for covid-19 symptoms before each training sessions, among other protocols.
Summer training sessions will resume in four waves. Phase one will begin on July 6 with voluntary, outdoor, individual workouts. Athletes will be divided into pods of 10 to train in, and will stay in those pods for the duration of the phase. These workouts can last a maximum of two hours.
Phase two will allow for sport specific workouts, and allow up to ten people for indoor activities and 50 people for outdoor activities. The second phase is scheduled to begin July 20. Phase three is schedule to begin after that, with more details to come at a later date.
