INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA has made a decision on a potential extra year of eligibility for Division I athletes who had their season cut short due to COVID-19.
Spring athletes will be granted an extra year of eligibility while winter athletes will not.
The coronavirus wiped out winter championship season and canceled the entirety of the spring season.
The NCAA added that individual schools will have flexibility to make their own decision on athletes.
On March 13 the NCAA originally said it would grant an extra year of eligibility to all of its spring sports athletes, but retracted that statement a few days later saying it would vote on the topic on the 30th.
