NORTH ADAMS, MA – No NECBL means no Sanford Mainers baseball this summer, a long standing tradition at Goodall Park.
Two UMaine players were set to play in Sanford for the 2020 season: catcher Ryan Turenne, and infielder Joe Bramanti.
In a statement, the league said, in part, on the cancelation:”We understand that this decision will result in hardship and disappointment to our student-athletes who have already lost their college spring baseball season. For this reason, it breaks our hearts and runs counter to our competitive instincts and spirit. However, our first priority and obligation must always be the health and well-being of our players and our community.”
The Cape Cod Baseball League, another prominent New England collegiate wood bat summer league, has already canceled its 2020 season as well.
