MDI – Trinity Montigny has never played a tournament game at the Cross Insurance Center, she was determined to end the drought.
Tied at 33 with 11 seconds left she poked the ball free from Elena Alderman and scored the game-winning layup as time expired to lead No. 10 Ellsworth to a 35-33 win over No. 7 MDI.
“I knew exactly how much time was left and I also knew there was nobody behind so I went to my right side cause that layup had to go in but I knew as soon as that went in it was game,” Montigny said after the game.
“It’s incredible you know this team has never been to the Cross Insurance Center I’ve never been to the Cross Insurance Center and I think that this was just our perfect moment and I think the steal obviously sealed the deal,” she added.
No. 10 Ellsworth moves on to play No. 2 Waterville in the Class B North quarterfinals Friday at 5 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center.
