ORONO – Around this time last year Orono was deciding whether it would want to play eight-man football or not. Ultimately deciding to side with the majority of the Little Ten Football Conference and stick to 11-man football.
The team ultimately decided to switch to a JV schedule a week before the season as its numbers were too low. There will be no last minute switch this year.
Orono’s school board has voted to approve the school’s move to eight-man football, low numbers were the main reason for the switch.
Athletic Director Mike Archer said the decision was unanimous and a no-brainer for all parties.
“This decision really now just allows us to start preparing for the following season and like you said there will be no surprised we’re in this now and we can better prepare our kids for the 2020 season,” Archer said.
