BANGOR – Wednesday night the Maine men’s basketball team came two points shy of their biggest win of the season, losing to Vermont 59-57.
That performance came without the team’s senior point guard, Sergio El Darwich, who we learned before the game will be out for two weeks with an broken finger.
Precious Okoh made an impact in the second half, recording ten points for the Black Bears. Richard Barron’s team played point guard by committee against the Catamount; with Okoh, Peter Stumer, And Ja’shonte Wright-McLeish sharing duties throughout the game. Wright-Mcleish scored eight points of his own. Team captain Andrew Fleming said after the game that he can play with confidence knowing the team is still equipped at point guard with El Darwich sidelined.
“Having that point guard off the bench, or being able to put Sergio [El Darwich] at the ‘off-guard’ and giving him a little bit of rest bringing the ball up every time, it’s good for us,” said Fleming.
