HERMON – Racing made its return on Wednesday night in Hermon, as Speedway 95 opened its gates for the first time in 2020.
The first night of races this summer was welcomed by local racers. The majority of heats were full ahead of the feature races to close out the night.
No fans were in attendance, but each car was allowed 10 crew members. Crews were asked to socially distance from one another, and every other pit stall was left unused.
It was a special day for the family and friends of John Hovey; many of whom came out in honor of his late son John Hovey IV, who passed away unexpectedly one year ago.
Regardless of the reason for attending, Speedway 95 officials were happy with those that chose to race. “They’re trying, I think they’re doing pretty well, would’ve like to have seen more masks on people, but they’re staying away, each pit has them separated but they’re doing well< said Speedway 95 safety director Wayne Elston.
Speedway 95 will run again next Wednesday before returning to its full weekly race schedule.
