ORONO – Dexter native Josh Harvey scored a first round submission victory over Dominic Jones in the main event.
Amateur Glory Watson, fighting out of Young’s MMA, retained her undefeated status with a first round TKO on Lin Macmillan. Watson cut around 20 pounds to fight in the 115 weight class, her fourth different weight class, but says strawweight is where she feels comfortable, “it’s pretty brutal because your caloric intake is so low and everything you do you’re like ‘I can’t wait to have that one egg white’ so it’s brutal, but it’s definitely worth it going with someone that’s so much smaller.”
Young’s gym mate Jimmy Jackson opened the professional fights on the card competing for the NEF professional featherweight championship against holder Tom Pagliarulo. Pagliarulo broke Jackson’s nose in the first round, according to Chris Young, and the fight was called before the second round started.
The main event pitted Harvey and Jones, Jones took the fight on three weeks notice after Ricky Dexter was not medically cleared to compete. Harvey earned a first round submission victory with an Americana lock. Harvey said after the fight he’s looking to work back down to featherweight, the class he is currently the NEF champion in, and defend the belt.
