ROCHESTER, NEW YORK – Record setting UMaine wide receiver and kick returner Earnest Edwards recorded a 4.41 second 40-yard dash at Saturday’s private pro day.
Edwards was originally scheduled to take part in UMaine’s pro day in Orono on march 27, which was canceled after NFL teams pulled their scouts off the road due to coronavirus concerns.
On Saturday, Edwards and five other Rochester native NFL Draft prospects took part in all of the NFL Draft Combine drills. The speedster impressed with 4.41 second 40-yard dash time, a time that would have put him in the top fifteen of wide receivers that ran the drill at the NFL Draft Combine in Indianapolis. He also posted 14 bench press reps at 225 pounds.
Even without scouts present, Edwards is hoping his performance at the private pro day event gets in front of the right people.”I know NFL teams want someone that can do more than one thing, and that’s what I bring, special teams, at my school if you didn’t play special teams you didn’t get on the field…if I show off special teams at the next level, maybe I get my shot at wide receiver,” said Edwards.
