MONTPELIER, VT – The announcement means the retention of the full membership of the North Atlantic Conference, which includes Northern Vermont University – Johnson and Lyndon.
Vermont State College System Chancellor Jeb Spaulding said in a release on Wednesday the System plans to keep Northern Vermont University’s Lyndon and Johnson campuses, and Vermont Technical College open for the 2020-2021 academic year. Spaulding initially recommended that the three schools be closed as part of a financial restructuring to shore of a financial deficit reaching above $10 million per year.
The closure of Northern Vermont’s two campuses would mean the loss of two North Atlantic Conference members, both of which had been scheduled by Husson’s NAC teams in the coming academic year.
There has been no confirmation on the future of the athletic programs at any of the three schools as of publishing.
