BANGOR – AARP offers driver safety programs that helps seniors re-freshen their skills to stay safe on the roads.
It also offers advice to families about when it’s time to consider when to hang up the keys. It’s especially important in a state like Maine where there’s a large population of older citizens.
But they can’t do it without volunteers and that’s why the organization is trying to recruit more instructors.
Organizer Vincent “Court” Dwyer said “If there are any retired teachers out there, this is perfect. Maybe somebody retired but still misses the excitement of being in front of a classroom. Maybe doesn’t miss the grades they were teaching, but now they would be teaching their peers.”
The classes are offered all over the state.
