BANGOR – Hunting is a favorite pastime in Maine and provides a great way for people to provide food for their families.
The folks with a special program hope hunters will also keep the less fortunate in mind while trying to fill their freezers this year.
“Hunters for the Hungry” enlists the help of hunters to provide a portion of their kill or the entire animal.
The program works with food pantries and others around the state to make sure that high quality meat makes it to people who struggle to have enough food to eat.
Jason Hall from Hunters for the Hungry said “A lot of these food pantries and households are lacking the high protein meat. So it’s a good match to help the less fortunate.”
Participating hunters are matched with local processors who make sure the harvested meat is distributed to pantries in those areas.
