BANGOR – The Eastern Maine Development Corporation has great news for people who lost their jobs in three counties.
It’s looking for people who would like to be paid while they learn the skills they need for a new career.
People who have been laid off in Penobscot, Piscatiquis or Hancok Counties are eligible. They can receive training in five sectors including construction and boat building, healthcare, information technology and manufacturing.
EMDC Spokesperson, Kristin Harmon, said “It’s a little different than going to school and getting a certification or anything like that. It’s hands on experience and you’re doing the job while you go along and learn the job. It’s very unique. It’s catered right to people who have been laid off.”
Once accepted into the training program and matched with a participating employer, a trainee will ear a paycheck while learning new skills.
