BANGOR – AARP and various other organizations are happy that family caregivers are getting the recognition they need.
Maine lawmakers passed a joint resolution this week that calls for supporting those caregivers. An estimated 178,000 Mainers are now caring for a family member or loved one.
It can take a big toll on their finances and emotional wellbeing.
The resolution directs the state to review the effectiveness of caregiver policies to make them better.
AARP said caregivers should be able to focus on caring for their loved one while having access to supports and services that will help them provide that care.
It’s also applauding the passing of federal legislation that will require the development of a national strategy to support family caregivers.
